A published, award winning photographer, Robert
Schuffert has pursued landscape photography since
the mid 1960's. His photographs have been selected
for magazine covers and articles and have won
numerous photographic competitions. In 2002,
Schuffert’s "Golden Gate Blues" image overwhelmed
1200 other entries to win grand-prize in the Decatur
Daily newspaper’s photo contest. It is little
surprise that Schuffert's well known photograph
entitled "Foggy Morning" was selected above other
winning entries for the cover of WAFF-TV's 2002
promotional calendar. Schuffert's images have been
displayed at the Guntersville Museum and Cultural
Center, the Tennessee Valley Art Center, the Gadsden
Museum of Art and other artistic venues. Schuffert’s
photograph "Foggy Cove" recently took 1st Place in
the black and white category at the Gadsden Museum
of Art. Schuffert was also invited by the Alabama
Bureau of Tourism and Travel to display several of
his photographs in their "2006, The Year of Outdoor
Alabama" photography exhibit which recently toured
the state.
His most recent project, Scenic North Alabama,
a 204-page full-color travel guide, is a Schuffert
portfolio of over 100 breathtaking sites in
Alabama's northern half, captured on film. A
Huntsville resident for over 20 years, Schuffert's
photographic expeditions have taken him
throughout Alabama and the USA in pursuit of his
craft. These expeditions not only include popular
locales, such as State and National Parks, but
also many less-traveled back roads and trails,
where exquisite native scenery is a well kept
secret. These hidden treasures and remote gifts
of nature found within the pages of Scenic North
Alabama offer a glimpse of what is tucked behind
the hills, beyond the ravines, or just off the
beaten track for others to also discover and
explore.
Schuffert has revisited historic Alabama
structures such as old barns, mills, lighthouses
and covered bridges from a bygone era, and frozen
them in time through the lens of his camera. His
passion for aquatic art forms such as inspiring
waterfalls or misty fog is apparent in his
photographic persuasion. Schuffert relishes
discovering and imaging nature's uniqueness and
tranquility. His talent reflects the serenity of
the scene. This acclaimed photographer and
journalist has studied under several well-known
photographers and logged countless miles and years
ferreting out nature's beauty. His myriad of
technical expertise and training is blended with a
lifetime of hands-on experience and innate
creative genius to achieve master-level
photography and workmanship. Robert Schuffert is
recognized and well respected among his colleagues.
To further his commitment to his profession, he is
an involved officer of the Huntsville Photographic
Society serving as VP of Activities.
